Three Best Compact Essay's

The major issue is that I have not actually decided what I want to do with my life in four years. As an illustration, most people know what they want to do, but I dont. Furthermore, people have started planning early. If I get help from someone though, then I think everything will be just fine. Therefore, I think in order for me to decide what I want to do with my life, I need a little help. However, I want to be mature and make my own decisions. Indeed I still have a lot of time left. In short ending, hopefully I will have everything planned out soon.

I strongly feel as though New media technology needs to move to the new building. Also, because this school is too small for everyone. Foremost there is barely any room in the hallyway during transition. If we moved to the new school, then things would be much better.On account of the school still being built, we just have to deal with being here right now. Eventhough, the founders of the school said we should have been moved to the new building. In some cases, some things just don't work out like people want it to. Last of all, hopefully we will be moving to the new building soon.

It seems to me that gas prices have went up. In support of this gas has went up to three dollars and some change. Likewise, people are starting to take septa instead of using their cars. Eventually they will lowere gas prices once they see this conflict. As a result, when taking septa you save more money. Despite, people aloso are walking too.After all hopefully the new president will change things and see into this problem. To close, gas prices need to lower.

Nikki Giovanni

Nikki Giovanni was born June 7, 1943, in Knoxville, Tennessee to Yolanda Cornelia and Jones Giovanni. She grew up in Lincoln Heights and in 1960 began her study at Fisk University, in Nashville, Tennessee. She graduated in 1967 with honors, receiving a B.A. in history. Following, she then attended University of Pennsylvania and Columbia University. In 1969, Nikki Giovanni began teaching at Livingston College, of Rutgers University. She gave birth to Thomas Giovanni, her only child in August of 1969. Both Giovanni’s mother and sister died of lung cancer, and in 1995, Giovanni herself was diagnosed with the disease as well. She then stopped smoking after she was diagnosed with the disease. What inspired her to do poetry was the Civil Rights and black power. Giovanni is currently a distinguished professor of English at Virginia Tech.

Maya Angelou

On April 4, 1928, Maya Angelou who was born Marguerite Johnson was born in St. Louis Missouri. She grew up in St. Lewis and Stamps, Arkansas. She is an author, poet, songwriter, playwright, dancer, civil rights activist and much more. In 1959, at the request of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Maya Angelou became the northern coordinator for the southern Christian Leadership Conference. From 1961 until 1962,she was associate editor of “The Arab Observer”. Angelou’s first book that she wrote was “ I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings” which talks about the first seventeen years of her life. At the age of eight Maya Angelou was sexually abused And raped by her mother’s boyfriend. After that happening Maya Angelou became mute for nearly five years. Before graduating, she became the first black female conductor in San Francisco. Three weeks after completing school, she gave birth to her son Clyde, and then became a poet. She is a famous and good role model to a lot of people.

Gwendolyn Brooks

Gwendolyn Brooks was born June 7, 1917, to Keziah and David brooks. Later that year her family moved to Chicago where two siblings were born. When she was seven, Brooks mother discovered her talent and gift for writing. After graduating from high school, she then attended Wilson Junior College and graduated in 1936. In 1939 she then married Henry Blakely and they had two children. In 1945, Gwendolyn Brooks published her first book, then in 1949, she the won a Pulitzer Prize in 1950. In 1968 she was named poet laureate for the state of Illinois. MS. Brooks died at the age of 83.

2nd Argrumentive Essay

Death Penalty

Some people in life fell to understand that death is a serious issue. Everyday someone gets hurt and die. We lose loved ones over innocent things and because they were at the wrong place, at the wrong time. It hurts to see someone that you know die, or hear about someone that you know that dies. When i was younger, I didn't see, but I heard about my male cousin who was 21, that died at a bar. This was all because he was trying to talk to a female that belonged to another man. Then the man shot him because of that. I regret him being in that situation, because he lost his life to something dumb. You watch the news and everyday what do you see? You hear about such things as someone dying by a car, someone getting shot, or someone getting murdered. My question is why does this happen? This happens because some people get a joy out of this and want to be part of the "cool crowd", and do what they thinkl is right.
The death penalty is very sad and confusing to me. When a criminal kills a person, they sometimes don't think about the fact that this person has a family to go home to, or maybe they are trying to do what is right in life. If we just took a second to put the guns and other weapons away, then a lot of people will still be here. In my opinion, God put people in the world to become someone, and to make a difference. He did not put us in the world to get killed and murdered by other people.Furthermore, you also have the type of people who attempt to do suicide. With doing that the outcome is going to hell to be perfectly honest, because God will not forgive you. But I believe that people do suicide because they are under a lot of stress, and because they feel as though there is noone who understands their problems as well. To close, I just hope that this killing will end soon.

Gambling

What is gambling? Gambling is risking money or valuables in hopes of winning more than you're risking. The problem that some people face today is Gambling. With this in mind doing such a thing like this can kill, harm, or even hurt a person as well. Gambling can become an addictive conflict to most people's lifes. It even happens today. Once some people start this job they tend to skip work, loose time with family, get angry and frustrated, and or eventually, they will probably need a counsler, or anger management. There are easy questions to ask someone, when you want to know if they have a gambling problem. You can ask questions such as these: 1. Do you ever lose time at school or work due to gambling?2. Did you ever gamble to get money with which to pay debts or otherwise solve financialdifficulties?3. After losing did you feel you must return to gambling as soon as possible to win back your losses?4. Do you sometimes gamble until your last dollar is gone?5. Do you ever borrow to finance your gambling?6. Have you ever sold anything to finance your gambling?7. Did you ever gamble longer than you had planned?8. Have you ever gambled to escape worry or trouble?9. Has gambling ever made your life unhappy?10. Has gambling ever been a source of conflict in a relationship?11. In my opinion, none should gamble at all, because in truth, it causes a lot of problems. Money cannot buy you happiness or a joy life of love. It can only buy material things that sometimes do not really matter. When gambling, to me it's like a drug, that you cannot let go of. Most people try to quit from it but they just cannot. My whole beleief is that the rate for gambling is very high in the city of Philadelphia, and other countries and cities as well. If the people who gambled took a stand to stop gambling, then they would have more money in their pockets. Also, people would not have to worry about having little money, being broke, or being poor. To close, hopefully the gamble rate will lower.

Dear Alyssa,

I really do miss you and hope that things are going well with you. I really want to reconnect with you because there is so much I have to show and tell you. I remember when we were very young and how we both made a pat that we would always remain best friends. Furthermore I remember when we both went shopping at the mall, went to the movies, took pictures, and you and I went over each other houses. In addition, we even played as if we were sisters and cousins and I enjoyed that very much alyssa. In my heart and mind I belive that you are very smart, caring, and a good friend. I hope that you did not forget about me along the way, because I haven't. I love you and I miss you.

Barbara C. Jordan Essay

Babara C. Jordan
Barbara C. Jordan was born February 26, 1936, and died January 17, 1996. She was born to both Benjamin Jordan and Arlyne Jordan. Barbara attended Wheatley High school, where she was inspired by Edith Sampson, to become a lawyer. In her mind she wanted to do this but there was only one law school in Texas that admitted African Americans. With support from her father Barbara Jordan graduated from Southern University in 1956, and Boston university law school in 1959. She passed the bar exams in Massachusetts and Texas before returning to Houston to open a law practice, leaving her to be the only third African- American woman to be licensed in Texas.
In 1962 and 1964, Jordan campaigned for the House Of Representatives. 1966, she won her self a seat in Texas Senate, becoming the first African American State senator since 1883, and the first black African American woman to run body. Barbara was then re-elected to a full term in the Texas Senate in in 1968, and served until 1972. She was the first African American Woman to serve as president pro tem of the state senate and served for one day as acting governor of Texas in 1972. Following in the year of 1972, she was elected to the United States House Of representatives becoming the first black woman from a Southern State to serve in the house. In 1973, Jordan began to suffer from multiple sclerosis. She had difficulty climbing stairs, and she started using a cane and eventually a wheelchair. She kept the state of her health out of the press so well that in the KUT radio documentary Rediscovering Barbara Jordan, former president Bill Clinton stated that he wanted to nominate Jordan for the United States Court Supreme, but by the time he could do so, Jordan's health problems prevented him from nominating her.
Jordan was a lesbian with a longtime companion of more than 20 years, with Nancy Earl; Jordan never publicly acknowledged her sexual orientation, but in her obituary, the Houston Chronicle mentioned her longtime relationship with Earl. After Jordan's initial unsuccessful statewide races, advisers warned her to become more discreet and not bring any female companions on the campaign trail.
Jordan met Earl, an educational psychologist who would become an occasional speechwriter in addition to Jordan's partner, on a camping trip in the late 1960s.
In 1974, Barbara Jordan made a influential, televised speech before the house of judiciary Committee supporting the impeachment of president Richard Nixon. In 1976 Jordan was mentioned as possible running mate to jimmy Carter. Her speech at the 1976 Democratic National National Convention is considered by many historians to have been the best convention keynote speech in modern history and was ranked 5th in "Top 100 American Speeches of the 20th century" list. She was the first African-American woman to deliver the keynote address. Jordan retired from politics in 1979 and became a professor at the University Of Texas at Austin Lyndon B. Johnson, a school of public affairs. In 1992, Barbara Jordan was a keynote speaker at the Democratic National Convention. Then in 1995, she chaired a Congressional commission that advocated increased restrictions of immigration regulations. Her seat in congress is currently held by African American democratic Sheila Jackson Lee.
Jordan was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1994. It was only one of many honors given to her, including election into both the Texas and National Women's Hall of Fame. In 1995, she was awarded the prestigious United States Military Academy's Sylvanus Thayer Award, becoming only the second female awardee. Upon her death on January 17, 1996, Jordan lay in state at the LBJ Library on the campus of The University of Texas at Austin. She was buried in the Texas State Cemetery in Austin, and was the first black woman interred there. Her papers are housed at the Barbara Jordan Archives at Texas Southern University.
The main terminal at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is named after her.
The Kaiser Family Foundation currently operates the Barbara Jordan Health Policy Scholars, a fellowship designed for people of color who are college juniors, seniors and recent graduates as a summer experience working in a congressional office.

On friday, all of the 9th grade girls stayed at school and talked about various subjects. Some dealing with boys, money, and qualities of a wealthy woman. These topics really helped me understand things better and change the way thtat I view things in life. Also, we talked about "Bourgiosie" and turned it from a negative to a positive statement. My group and I said such words as classy, trendsetter, independent, optimistic, and much more. When most people think of this word, they think of whore, skank, and other horrible words as well. But I believed that I learned so much just from that 8 hour experience on friday. We worked along with Ms. Kincade and Ms. Valerie and had fun, ate and watched a movie, which was "Dreamgirls".
Some of the important messages that were conveyed to me during the woman's conference was to not let anyone stop you from your dreams. Furthermore, that if you are a queen, and you act like a queen, then you will get treated like a queen. If you believe in yourself then everything will be alright. The most important message that hit me the most, was do not spend your time on one particular person, and do not chase after a boy let them chase after you. That was important to me because so many African American females spend so much of their time chasing after someone that does not really care about them or want them at all. If they come to you and they are patient, then you know that they are right for you. I wont even lye, I spent one time chasing after this boy who I realized did not accept me for me, and who really did not care for me. But when Ms. Kincade talked to me about this particular situation on Friday, this made me stand up stronger, and made me tell myself that I am better, and that I'm not chasing after anyone anymore longer, they are going to chase after me.
Having this meeeting on friday has changed my outlook tremendously. I know that if someone did not tell me the same thing once again, that I would probably fall in the same footsteps. I know now who I am and what my goals are in life. I really do look at some situations differently now, then before. Sometimes I must say that I need a helping hand myself, to understand things and grow from them. Hearing Ms. Kincade's stories that were somewhat similiar to mine, really gave me a wakeup call, and I thank her for that. Now for example, I have a whole new different outllook on boys, if they donnot chase after me and take their time with me, and also be honest and truthful, then they are not worth my time or my breath.
it is important for young men and women to meet and discuss isssues that they might have in life because it helps the body, spirit, and soul. Also, some people do not have a helping hand in life so they need someone else to guide them. Prior, when we as young people hear other peoples stories and similiar situations they have like us, it helps us even more. We sometimes feel as though most people cannot understand our situations or what we are going through, as well as we sometimes think that noone has been in a situation similiar to us so we need to have some type of encouragement to help us along the way. It is important for young men and women to have these meetings because it also helpes us really get to know the people around us and some of the things that they have gone through in life.
I knew about a lot of things that already, but I heasrd some of the things that we talked about on Friday before, and I just neeeded more of a bigger wakeup call. This woamn's conference has really helped me alot. I enjoyed every part of it and now I have a stronger understanding.

The Constitution of the United States is a document that outlines the basis of the Federal (national) government of the USA. It was written in 1787 at the "Constitutional Convention" held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The 55 men at the convention are called the "Founding Fathers” of the USA, and are also known as the "framers of the Constitution." Some of the more famous of the framers are George Washington (the President of the USA), James Madison (the fourth President of the USA), Benjamin Franklin and Alexander Hamilton.The US Constitution was ratified (approved) on June 21, 1788. It replaced the earlier set of rules, the Articles of Confederation (which were written in 1781, but gave Congress very little changes. The Preamble of the Constitution is the short introduction to the Constitution; it explains that the document proposes to establish a more perfect government complete with justice, tranquility, and liberty. It states, "We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common Defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America." The Constitution sets up the US government as a republic with three branches of government: the Legislative branch (which makes the national laws and consists of Congress), the Executive branch (headed by the President), and the Judicial branch (which interprets the Constitution and laws, and consists of judges in courts). The Constitution sets up the power balance between states and the Federal government, details how to add new states to the USA, tells how the Constitution can be amended, and enumerates requirements for ratifying (approving) the Constitution by the states.Many amendments (Power to the Constitution) have been made throughout the years. The first 10 amendments, called the Bill of Rights, were added in 1791; the Bill of Rights preserves the rights of the people, including the freedom of Speech and religion, among others. So far, there have been 27 amendments to the constitution. The US Constitution has been the model for many countries' constitutions around the world. It is a great document that has withstood the test of time in creating a government that has functioned well for over 200 years while preserving individual liberty and justice.

The most important lesson that my mother and father has ever taught me is to do and be better then what they were before. I say that because they have made some mistakes in life that they did not want to and they wish that they could go back and change it. My parents want me to be the best that I can be in life and I am hoping that I can pass that along to my children in the future as well. Its not like I plan to make mistakes now or in the near future. It just happens and people will just have to except that. They have told me the things that they have gone through and how they want me to improve in that area. I believe that I can and will be a better person later on in life. None can change that.
How I can benefit from this lesson is just by being patient and listening to everything that they have to say. Alos, I believe that I can benefit from this by being a rolemodel to other people and sharing my opinions. I know that God will help me along the way and I can not do it all by myself I willneed a helping hand as well. Not everybody is perfect in life God shapes us and makes us. Most people do not realize it , but he does. So to sum everything up as to how I can benefit from this, I will just continue to be the best that I can be.
